Starting June 28, 2025, significant legislation will go into effect within the European Union that will directly affect how businesses operate in this region.
The European Accessibility Act (EAA) sets the standard for accessibility of digital products and services, and this can have significant implications for your business.

New requirements for digital services
All digital tools and platforms, such as websites, apps, and self-service kiosks, should be accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities.
What does this mean for your business?
- Potential adjustment to your offerings: You may need to adjust your existing products or services to meet the prescribed standards.
- Design and development: Your product development process will become more inclusive, taking accessibility into account from the very beginning of your website and other digital channels.
- Access to a larger market: The changes also open doors to a larger group of consumers who previously may not have been reached due to limitations in accessibility.
Take note: the tightening will take effect on 28 June 2025. However, micro-enterprises (fewer than 10 employees, €2M or less turnover) and digital subscription services get an extension of 5 years, but this is subject to certain conditions. You must get an audit and publish an accessibility statement describing your plans for how to comply by 2030.
Don't know where to start in mapping your accessibility? Consider an Accessibility Scan.
What can you already do yourself?
Training and education
Make sure your teams understand these new regulations and are trained in the principles of accessible design. Our Accessibility Expert, Rembrand, would be happy to help you with this, by the way.
Always keep in mind that adapting to the European Accessibility Act is not only a legal necessity but also an opportunity to expand your market reach and innovate your offerings. By preparing now, you will ensure that your business is ready for this critical June 2025 change.
How can we help you?
We believe very strongly in the "Design for All" philosophy: we want as many people as possible to use our products and services in an easy way. To help all our customers take that step, we developed an Accessibility Scan.
What is an Accessibility Scan?
As an Accessibility Expert, I (Rembrand) will do a review and map out how your website or digital channel is doing. The scan starts from a sample of about 10 pages, including the homepage, a page with a form, and several content pages. This results in a report that lists which things do not conform, with the necessary references and suggestions. This way, your platform will be fully compliant in no time.
